Rede urbana e frentes pioneiras no sul do Amazonas

Abstract

The state of Amazonas has a territorial fraction that exhibits different manifestations that refer to spatial transformations in the current period, which can be understood by the changes in the urban network and the advance of the pioneer fronts in what is called Southern Amazonas. Within this context, this master's thesis analyzes the spatial and territorial transformations in Southern Amazonas, taking into account the urban network and territorial conformation with the advances and consolidations of the pioneering fronts along the routes of highways BR-319 (Manaus–Porto Velho) and BR-230 (Apuí – Lábrea), between the municipalities of Lábrea, Humaitá, Sul de Manicoré, and Apuí, as they correspond to the municipal and district headquarters (Realidade, Ipixuna, Carmo, and Sucunduri), sections and locations that present nodes and articulations of a complex urban road and river network marked by the temporalities of pioneer fronts. To conduct the research, we opted for a methodological approach based on structuralism to think about and analyze the role of the state in territorial structuring. In the methodological context, we opted for a bibliographic survey, unstructured interviews, and exploratory fieldwork. The need for this research is justified by the fact that the area under analysis has undergone the most intense spatial and territorial changes in the state of Amazonas, with the construction and consolidation of highways, in addition to advances in pioneering fronts with new content and elements in the current period. To perform the analysis, the study was based on bibliographic and theoretical surveys focused on urban networks, transportation, pioneering fronts, agribusiness, and flows. Based on methodological approaches and fieldwork observations, as well as a historical analysis of the urban network between 1976 and 2025, a complex and still changing urban network was identified, with the establishment of new, fixed flows and advances by a pioneering frontier without spatial contiguity, articulating with the productive dynamics of Mato Grosso and Rondônia along the Amazonian Trans-Amazonian Highway and the southern section of the Manaus–Porto Velho highway
