Por uma história LGBTI+ na literatura da região Norte do Brasil: expressões dissidentes no close das margens

Abstract

This dissertation investigates LGBTI+ expressions in the literature of the Northern region of Brazil, focusing on authorship and the production of texts (in both prose and verse) that challenge gender and sexual norms. The study aims to map, document, and analyze the presence of these authors, examining their narrative and poetic strategies in resisting cisheteronormative norms and the colonial structures of the Brazilian literary system. Grounded in postcolonial, gender, and queer studies, the research draws on theorists such as Spivak (2010), Fanon (2022), Butler (2018; 2019), Bento (2017), and Hall (2016) to discuss subalternity, representation, and erasure in the literary historiography of the North. Methodologically, the study conducts a systematic survey of LGBTI+ authors from the seven states of the Northern region, utilizing searches in academic repositories, literary magazines, digital platforms, fanzines, and other forms of publication (both independent and mainstream). Additionally, it analyzes texts from different genres—short stories, poetry, and novellas—considering their strategies of resistance and the resignification of dissident subjectivities. As a result, 36 LGBTI+ authors were identified, most of whom publish independently and digitally, facing challenges of visibility within the hegemonic publishing market. The analyzed works highlight LGBTI+ literature from the North as a space for canon contestation, identity reconstruction, and political affirmation, offering new perspectives on literary production in the region.
