Manual informativo de utilização da fibrina rica em plaquetas (PRF) nas exodontias de terceiros molares inclusos.

Abstract

Objective: The objective of this study was to develop an informational manual for patients regarding the postoperative benefits of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) use in the extraction of impacted third molars. Methodology: An integrative review was conducted using the PubMed, SciELO, and BVS databases, covering publications from 2006 to 2024. The DeCS/MeSH descriptors used, in English, were “extraction,” “platelet-rich fibrin,” and “impacted third molar,” combined using the Boolean operator AND: “platelet-rich fibrin” AND “impacted third molar” AND “extraction.” The identified articles were assessed using the PICOS strategy; those that met the eligibility criteria were exported to a Microsoft Excel 2016 spreadsheet for reference management and duplicate removal. Results: A total of 17 studies were selected: eight systematic reviews, four randomized clinical trials, and five non-randomized clinical trials. Of the included studies, 14 out of 17 (≈ 82%) reported significantly improved healing and faster recovery in the PRF-treated group compared to the control group. Three studies (≈ 18%) did not observe statistically significant differences. Regarding specific outcomes, reductions were reported in pain (41% of studies), edema (35%), trismus (18%), and incidence of alveolar osteitis (41%). Additionally, 24% of the studies described enhanced bone regeneration, and 18% reported faster soft tissue healing. Only one study (≈ 6%) evaluated PRF as a non-pharmacological adjunctive therapy, also with favorable results. Conclusion: Based on these findings, an easy-to-understand patient manual was developed to explain the benefits of PRF, facilitating patient comprehension of the procedure, strengthening dentist–patient communication, and promoting a more modern, safe, and humanized dental practice.
